*Visit to Mavilan Community, Alapadamba, Kannur*
Karivellur: On 25 January 2025, psychology students visited the Mavilan community in Alapadamba, Kannur, as part of their field exploration.
The students observed the traditional practices and rituals that form the cultural foundation of the Mavilan community. The community members provided an insightful overview of their cultural significance, emphasizing how these rituals contribute to psychological well-being.
Community leader, Narayanan Anthithiriyan and Ratheesh Anthithiriyan gave an informative session on their cultural history, traditional practices and lifestyle.
During the visit, the students engaged with local community members.The community shared their belief in the healing power of their rituals and how they help individuals feel spiritually connected and emotionally supported.
Assistant Professor Krishna Ramachandran accompanied the group. Students, including Fathima, Farhana, Unnikrishnan and Hridya engaged with the community, gaining valuable insights into cultural practices, mental health approaches and social support structures in traditional settings.
